Exploring Bihar and Beyond

Traveling isn’t just about the sights; it’s about how those places make you feel. Here are the highlights of my travel experiences:

1. My Home State: Bihar

Being from Patna, the capital city of Bihar, I have explored many beautiful places close to my roots:

  • Patna: From the iconic Golghar to the tranquil NIT Ghats, the vibrant City Centre Mall, P&M Mall and the scenic Marine Drive, every corner of Patna resonates with history, spirituality, and modern charm, including the revered Patna Sahib Gurudwara. As a home place, it never let me feel bored here as there are n number of spots to hang on!

  • NalandaVisiting the ruins of Nalanda University was a surreal experience. Standing amidst the remnants of this ancient center of learning, I could almost feel the weight of its historic wisdom. The intricate designs and architectural masterpieces, still visible in their decaying state, spoke volumes of the craftsmanship and knowledge that once flourished here.

  • Rajgir: Rajgir’s serene landscapes and soothing hot springs offered a peaceful escape, while the thrill of the jungle safari added an adventurous touch to my trip. The glass bridge and the ropeway ride elevated the experience, providing unique perspectives of the stunning surroundings. The highlight was visiting the Vishwa Shanti Stupa atop the Ratnagiri hills, where I was rewarded with one of the most breathtaking views, making Rajgir a perfect blend of tranquility and excitement. A must place to visit if you want to enjoy nature along with jungle safari.

  • Jamalpur: Known for its renowned railway workshop hub, Jamalpur in Bihar offered me a fascinating glimpse into industrial history and instilled a sense of pride in the local community. Beyond its heritage, the area also provided a mesmerizing view, showcasing the perfect blend of mountains and lush greenery. The peaceful Ganga riverbanks added to the charm, and spotting langurs in the wild was an exciting experience. It's also known that leopards have been spotted atop the mountains, making it a place where nature and history come together beautifully. Also, the pleasant and cool air passing at the top of the hills was totally unmatched. Oh...I can still feel it !

2. My Spiritual Journeys

  • Vindhyachal: Visiting the Vindhyavasini Devi Temple in Uttar Pradesh was a deeply emotional and spiritual experience. The devotion of the people there inspired profound reflections on faith and life. Not far from there, the story of Sitakund added another layer of significance to my trip. According to the legend, while returning from exile, Goddess Sita felt thirsty, and Lord Lakshman pierced the ground with his arrow, causing water to flow from it in the form of a fountain. The peaceful ghats nearby further enriched the experience, making Vindhyachal a place where spirituality, history, and natural beauty intertwine.

  • Shirdi: Visiting Sai Baba’s temple in Shirdi brought me an unparalleled sense of peace. The spiritual energy and the devotion of the gathered devotees created an atmosphere I will always cherish. Just an hour’s drive from Shirdi, Nashik is a city rich in history and spirituality. Known for hosting one of the four Kumbh Mela gatherings, the largest religious event in the world. Moreover, just a few hours from Nashik, in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad), lie the UNESCO World Heritage sites of the Ajanta and Ellora Caves. Meanwhile, Nashik’s renowned vineyards make it a haven for wine enthusiasts, adding a unique charm to this historic city.

3. Historical and Iconic Destinations

  • Delhi: Delhi, the capital city of India, serves as a central hub where modernity seamlessly blends with history. Exploring iconic landmarks like the serene Lotus Temple, the majestic Akshardham, and the historic Red Fort, along with the bustling streets of Chandni Chowk, India Gate, and Connaught Place, allowed me to connect deeply with the rich cultural heritage and vibrant energy of the city. Each visit offered a unique experience, showcasing both the grandeur of India's past and the dynamic spirit of its present.

  • Agra: Visiting the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, was truly a dream come true. The monument’s breathtaking beauty, combined with the poignant love story behind it, made it an unforgettable experience. Just a short distance away, Fatehpur Sikri, with its rich history and architectural marvels, and Akbar’s Tomb, a testament to Mughal grandeur, added even more depth to my journey. The Taj Mahal, with its exquisite marble artistry and serene surroundings, stands as an eternal symbol of love and a true marvel of human achievement.

  • Vrindavan & Mathura: Exploring the birthplace of Lord Krishna in Mathura and the vibrant temples of Vrindavan was a deeply joyous and energizing experience. The spiritual atmosphere in these sacred towns is unlike any other. I visited the Dwarkadhish Temple, Govardhan Parvat, and Radha Kund, each place steeped in divine significance. Barsana, where I experienced the world-famous Lathmar Holi, was an unforgettable highlight; the intensity and unique celebration of this festival can only be found here. I also visited the serene Prem Mandir, with its stunning architecture, and Nidhivan, a temple shrouded in mystery, said to be the site where Krishna himself is believed to still dance with Radha and the gopis. The time spent in Mathura and Vrindavan, especially during Holi, filled me with a profound sense of connection to the divine, and there are countless more stories and experiences to share from this magical journey.

Travel Lesson: Exploring my home state and nearby places taught me that beauty isn’t always far away—it often lies just around the corner.

Culture: A Tapestry of Traditions

Every place I visited has unique traditions and stories. From the festivals in Bihar to the devotion in Shirdi, each moment added depth to my travels. Whether it was the historical allure of Delhi or the peaceful landscapes of Rajgir, every destination had its own special cultural identity, making each moment unforgettable. The deeper you go into a place’s culture, the more meaningful and transformative your travel experience will be.

Food: A Culinary Adventure

Food has always been one of the highlights of my travels:

  • Patna: Litti Chokha, a traditional Bihari dish, remains close to my heart.along with Sattu Paratha and Thekua, which added a delightful touch to my experience. The rich flavors of roasted wheat flour and lentil-based chutneys were both comforting and satisfying, making each bite memorable.

  • Delhi: Kadhai chicken, Chole Bhature and biryani became instant favorites.

  • Agra: I couldn’t leave without trying Agra’s famous Petha (sweet), but I also made sure to indulge in the city’s mouthwatering Chaat and crispy Kachori.

  • Shirdi: Simple and soulful Prasad meals from the temple filled both my stomach and heart

  • Rajgir: The legendary Silao Khaja, so many crispy, paper-thin layers that I lost count! One bite and it just disappeared, leaving me wondering if I'd actually eaten it or just dreamed it.

Stories in Every Smile

The kindness and warmth of the people I met have been the most rewarding part of my journey. Whether it was a stranger helping me find directions in Delhi or a local shopkeeper sharing stories in Rajgir, these moments made my travels memorable. In Mathura, the devotion of the people added a spiritual depth to my experience, while in Shirdi, the humility and generosity of the temple volunteers made me feel at home.
